How to Track Your Cooking History

Learn how to use the Cooking Diary to keep a record of everything you've cooked.

What the Cooking Diary is

The Cooking Diary, found at /app/diary, is your personal history of everything you've cooked in Umami Digital. Each entry can include the date you cooked a dish, a photo, a star rating, and your own notes.

Adding an entry

  1. Cook a recipe using Cooking Mode.
  2. When you finish the last step, you'll be prompted to log the dish to your diary.
  3. Choose the date you cooked it, if it's different from today.
  4. Add a photo of the finished dish if you'd like a visual record.
  5. Give it a star rating based on how it turned out.
  6. Write any notes, such as changes you made or how your household liked it.

Reviewing your history

Visit /app/diary any time to see your past entries. This makes it easy to remember which recipes you've already tried, what you thought of them, and what changes you made last time.

Why keep a diary

  • You can quickly find a favorite dish you cooked a while back.
  • Star ratings help you remember which recipes are worth repeating.
  • Notes are useful for remembering substitutions or timing adjustments that worked well.

Privacy

Your Cooking Diary is private. The backend ensures that only you can see your own diary entries, so your notes and photos stay personal.

Tips

  • Add notes right after cooking, while the details are still fresh.
  • Take your photo in good light so it's easy to recognize the dish later.
  • Use your star ratings honestly so they stay useful when you're deciding what to cook again.
