Privacy Policy

Last updated 11 September 2026.

This policy describes what Umami Digital collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is a product draft meant to be reviewed by a legal professional before final publication.

What we collect

  • Account data. When you sign up we ask for your name, email address, and a password. We store a secure hash of your password, not the password itself. You may also add an optional phone number and profile photo in Settings.
  • Cookbook data. We store the recipes you create or save, your collections, cooking diary entries, ratings, ingredient checklists, and serving-scale preferences so your cookbook stays yours.
  • Profile information. Your display name, email, avatar, subscription status, notification preferences, and onboarding choices are kept with your account.
  • Nori AI requests. When you chat with Nori, your message and the current recipe context are sent to our AI provider to generate a reply. We do not retain chat history beyond the current session unless you save a recipe from the conversation.
  • Fridge Finder photos. Images you upload are sent to our AI provider for ingredient recognition. They are used only to produce the ingredient list and are not stored permanently.
  • Payment information. Subscription billing is handled by Stripe. We receive your subscription status, billing period, and customer reference, but we never collect or store your payment card details.
  • Cookies and product events. We use essential session cookies to keep you signed in. We also record limited, privacy-focused product events in our own backend to understand usage and fix problems. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies.

How we use your data

  • To provide and secure your account and personal cookbook.
  • To power recipe discovery, search, saves, collections, and cooking-mode features.
  • To run Nori and Fridge Finder AI features and show relevant suggestions.
  • To process subscriptions, enforce Free and Pro limits, and manage billing.
  • To respond to support requests, send service updates, and improve reliability.

How we share data

We share only what is necessary with trusted service providers: hosting, database, authentication, AI services, and payment processing. We do not sell personal data. We do not share your cookbook content for advertising.

Data retention

We keep account and cookbook data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal information and user-created content within a reasonable time, except where we must keep records for legal or billing purposes.

Your choices and deletion

You can update your name, email, avatar, password, and notification preferences in Settings. To request a copy of your data or to delete your account, contact us.
